Former Albany County Sheriff’s employee who stole $122,000 avoids jail
A former Albany County Sheriff’s employee was sentenced for stealing $122,251.25 in government funds.
John Cox, 62, of Schenectady got two years of probation, including 180 days of home confinement.
Cox admitted earlier this year he issued 16 fraudulent checks from sheriff’s office funds from June 2017 to Feb. 2023, and took the money for personal use. He then lied on records to try and cover it up.
Cox must now pay all the money back, plus a $5,500 fine.
