Former Rensselaer County Elections Commissioner Jason Schofield has officially pleaded guilty to federal charges.
Schofield pleaded guilty Wednesday to identity theft – unlawfully using the names and dates of birth of voters to fraudulently apply for absentee ballots for elections held in Rensselaer County in 2021.
He resigned from his position before entering his plea.
Schofield faces up to 60 years in prison, and a fine of up to $250,000 when he is sentenced on May 12.
