They’ve known each other for a long time, and are now opponents in the Democratic primary.
Both Ron Kim and Chris Mathiesen are hoping their Democratic Party will make them their choice for Saratoga Springs mayor.
Kim wants another term in City Hall. Mathiesen wants to return to city government. The three-time Public Safety Commissioner wants Kim’s office.
The two of them go way back. They served on the Zoning Board of Appeals together.
According to Mathiesen, they’ve campaigned for one another through the years. However, they’re not talking to each other right now.
Kim stopped short of calling Mathiesen a friend. Mathiesen said he was motivated to run because of the chaos he’s witnessed at City Council meetings.
No matter the outcome of the primary, both will be on the ballot in November. Kim has the Working Families line and Mathiesen has the new One Saratoga line.
Hear Kim talk about what he said are his biggest accomplishments in office, and why Mathiesen said he wants to challenge him by watching the video of Mark Mulholland’s story.
