A former Schenectady County corrections officer has avoided prison time in the serious beating of a detainee at the county jail. However, he will spend time behind bars.

Eugene Sellie pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree assault, and two counts of official misconduct in connection with the assault on the detainee in November 2020.

Sellie allegedly took the victim to a secluded room in the jail with no cameras, and punched and kicked him.

The detainee suffered broken ribs, a broken collar bone and a collapsed lung.

Sellie had faced four years in prison, but worked out a deal with the judge for six months in jail, and five years’ probation.
