A jury convicted a former teacher of rape in Niskayuna.

Nikos Assimakopoulos, 25, of Albany, was found guilty of one count of rape, one count of criminal sexual act, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

The crimes happened four years ago.

Assimakopoulos is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old child. He was 21 at the time.

He was working as a teacher at Catholic Central High School in Troy when the crimes happened, police said.

Assimakopoulos faces up to eight years in prison when he’s sentenced in September. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
