Four injured after Pittsfield Police cruiser strikes Jeep

Four people were injured after a Pittsfield Police cruiser struck a Jeep.

The crash happened on Sunday at about 4:22 p.m. Pittsfield offices were responding to an address off Cheshire Road for a report of a disturbance. The police had lights and an intermittent siren for a Code 2 response, according to a news release.

Officer Matthew Ahern was driving north on Merrill Road with another officer in the passenger seat. When attempting to negotiate the Coltsville intersection, Ahern struck a westbound 2023 Jeep Wrangler operated by Kimberly Gaylord, 57, of Peru, Mass., and with her two grandchildren as passengers. The Jeep subsequently rolled onto the driver side, police said.

Ahern and all occupants of the Jeep were taken to Berkshire Medical Center for minor injuries and released. Part of the intersection was closed for about one hour for the vehicles to be removed and the roadway to be cleared of debris.

Lt. Marc Maddalena of the Pittsfield Police Traffic Unit is investigating the crash. Any witnesses are asked to contact him at 413-448-9700 ext. 575.
