Fundraising game for umpire battling cancer
ROTTERDAM — People played whiffleball to raise money for an umpire who they say has had a profound effect on their lives, both on and off the field.
John DeFlumer was recently diagnosed with cancer and the girls of the Rotterdam Rumble softball team wanted to make sure he has everything he needs for his fight.

180 people from the community signed up for their charity whiffle ball tournament and many more showed up to show their support for the umpire.
DeFlumer’s family is asking that he be flooded with cards as he begins treatment.
For well over a decade, he has umpired or refereed softball, basketball, and volleyball games for schools and leagues across the state.
