Two gang fights broke out at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility. That’s in a report from the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association.

The first fight happened on Sunday, April 23 in the recreation yard, where an officer assigned to the yard says he saw two inmates punching each other, NYSCOPBA said.

The fight escalated, and four people got involved, NYSCOPBA said. They broke up the fight and most inmates complied. However, two inmates allegedly started chasing a third inmate, and cut him across the face. All seven inmates involved were brought to the infirmary and are now facing charges.

The second incident happened later that night, when staff allegedly saw two inmates exchanging punches. Staff said the investigation found both fights were a result of rival gang confrontations.

Staff also recovered two weapons while searching two inmates and their cells last Thursday.
