Gansevoort man accused of raping child

A Gansevoort man is accused of raping a child.

On Sunday morning, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office received a call requesting a check of a residence on Baker Driver in the town of Northumberland for a missing 12-year-old girl.

The investigation led to the arrest of Matthew Vargues, 32, on a charge of predatory sexual assault against a child.

Vargues was arraigned in Northumberland Town Court and sent to Saratoga County Jail.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations assisted the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.
