General Electric has announced plans for a $50 million investment in its Schenectady facility. It’s a move that will create around 200 jobs.

GE Vernova said it will invest the money to establish a new onshore wind turbine manufacturing line in the Electric City.

Construction is expected to be finished by this summer, with the first set of components produced by early fall.

Local lawmakers – including United States Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer – are cheering the news.

Congressman Paul Tonko said in a statement:

“By investing in American workers and domestic supply chains, we can continue to create the jobs of the future while cementing America’s – and the Capital Region’s – leadership in the fight against climate change.”
