Help is on the way for New Yorkers struggling to pay their home heating bills.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand says $5 billion in federal assistance for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program – also known as LIHEAP – was included in this year’s funding package.

Gillibrand says that natural gas prices are expected to go up 28% this winter. She also expects a 27% rise for heating oil and 10% for electricity.

The bipartisan funding package is expected to be passed by Congress and signed into law this week.
