An event this weekend will remember and honor a young man who was killed in a car crash more than a decade ago.

The “J” Wyatt Spencer Memorial Golf Tournament is set for Saturday at Orchard Creek Golf Club in Altamont.

Spencer was killed in May of 2009 at the age of 13.

He is described as an exceptionally gifted athlete, and he was just starting to share his father’s love for the game of golf when he died.

Saturday’s event will raise money for a scholarship that will benefit Berne-Knox-Westerlo students who exhibit some of his exceptional traits.

Organizers have awarded more than $48,000 in scholarships to local students to date.
