Lansingburgh students honored for good choices

A special shoutout to a group of students at Knickerbacker Middle School in Lansingburgh. They all got positive referrals for making good choices while at school. Positive referrals include a good attitude, excellent effort and setting a good example. A total of 186 positive referrals were handed out.

Guilderland middle schoolers win “Future City” competition

Congratulations to Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland for winning first place in this past weekend’s “Future City” competition. The STEM competition asked students to answer what will cities look like if they adapt to climate change. Farnsworth students called their futuristic city “Pine Peaks.” They now head to the finals in February.

Restaurant’s pasta fagioli wins Amsterdam SoupFest

The results are in for Amsterdam’s SoupFest. Lorenzo’s Southside won best soup for their pasta fagioli. This is the second year in a row, Lorenzo’s placed first. More than 1,600 people voted on 32 soups this past weekend.

New soul food restaurant opens in Albany

A new restaurant featuring southern soul food is open in downtown Albany. Suga Foot’s Soul Kitchen opened at 164 Madison Avenue. After a series of pop-ups over the summer, owners Chuck and Francine Calhoun have this permanent spot now. This story comes to us from the Albany Business Review.

Movie theaters gear up for ‘National Popcorn Day’ on Thursday

“National Popcorn Day,” is Thursday, January 19, and movie theaters across the country are taking part. You’ll find discounts and free refills at national movie theater chains. A recent Fandango survey of 2,500 moviegoers finds 81% say the popcorn is an important part of going to the movies.
