Gov. Hochul makes Lunar New Year a school holiday

Governor Kathy Hochul has signed legislation declaring Asian Lunar New Year a public-school holiday in New York State.

The legislation ensures schools are not in session on Lunar New Year.
It’s celebrated on a different date every year, usually in January or February.

In a statement, the governor says: “it is not just a day off from school – it is an opportunity for our children to learn about and celebrate their own or different cultures and traditions.”
