An annual ceremony was held in Green Island on Friday to honor 25 veterans for their bravery and sacrifice.
Five veterans – all who served between 1939 to 1980 – were given honorary diplomas under Operation Recognition.
The program allows veterans to earn high school diplomas if they left school without graduating to fight for our freedom.
Several veterans, including those who fought in World War II, the Vietnam War and the Korean War, were honored during the ceremony with federal and state medals and certificates.
Many of the honored veterans have passed away, but their families attended the ceremony on their behalf.
