Elected leaders urge NYSNA, Albany Med to come to a decision on contract
Several lawmakers are urging the New York State Nurses Association to accept the most recent contract Albany Medical Center is offering them.
The letter was sent to the hospital and the union. It is signed by Assemblymembers Patricia Fahy and John McDonald, Sen. Neil Breslin and Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan.
As NewsChannel 13 has been reporting, the nurses have been without a contract for six months. They’re asking the hospital for safe staffing, fair wages, benefits and a union voice.
Meantime, Albany Medical Center is slowly removing benefits as more contracts are rejected. The first one to go is retroactive pay.
“Albany Med nurses look forward to returning to the bargaining table to secure a fair contract that prioritizes both safe patient care and the well-being of our frontline nurses,” NYSNA said.
“Our commitment to providing the highest quality care to our patients remains unwavering, and we will not back down in our fight for the resources, support, and recognition we need to do our jobs effectively.”
