Guilderland Police arrest teen for possessing a loaded handgun

Guilderland Police arrested a 16-year-old male on Friday from Troy for possessing a loaded glock 9 mm handgun.

This followed after a motor vehicle crash in the area of Western Avenue and Church Road in Guilderland.

Police responded to the area of the crash around 1:30 p.m., where a Jeep rear-ended another vehicle.

The occupants of the Jeep exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, said Guilderland PD.

Authorities say in the vehicle that was hit, occupants suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

The male discarded the loaded handgun while officers were attempting to locate the individual.

Guilderland Police captured the 16-year-old in the area of Woodlake Apartments.

Police say the male was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.

He was arraigned in the Youth Part of the Superior Court and released to the custody of his parents.
