A man kicked the doors in of a burning Albany home on Saturday afternoon. Everyone got out safely and no one was hurt, investigators said.
The fire broke out around 2:15 p.m. on 289 Sherman Street.
Saffat Hossen said his uncle noticed the smoke coming from the building. Hossen could see it coming from a second-floor window, he said. He started knocking on doors. When he didn’t get a response, he kicked the door in and started opening windows inside.
“I was just trying to see if anyone’s inside there. I was just trying to save them,” he said.
He found one of the residents who was cooking in his apartment and unaware of the fire inside.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
