A Hillsdale man is accused of threatening people attending Mass at St. Mary’s Church.

Cameron A. Jamieson, 47, allegedly walked into the church just after 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. Witnesses told police that a man, later identified as Jamieson, was wearing a mask and long black cloak. He yelled “All hail” toward the congregation, Hudson Police said.

Jamieson then proceeded to advance toward the church’s front altar, showing a glass bottle raised above his head. Other members of the congregation stopped Jamieson and detained him until police arrived.

Many attendees were worried that there was a presence of an explosive device, or firearm, police said.

Jamieson was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital for a mental health evaluation. He was discharged, arraigned in Hudson City Court and sent to Columbia County Jail in lieu of $3,000 cash or bond.

Jamieson was scheduled to be back in court on Tuesday. NewsChannel 13 will bring you updates when they become available as to what happened in court.

Hudson Police Chief Mishanda Frankli said there will be an increased police presence during the church.

“We empathize with the members of our community impacted by this incident,” Franklin said in a statement. “We recognize the distress it has caused and are dedicated to swiftly addressing their concerns. We extend our sincere gratitude to the church members for their quick thinking and bravery in stepping in to assist before law enforcement arrived. Rest assured, we are committed to providing a swift and thorough response to ensure the security of all residents.”
