Gov. Kathy Hochul is celebrating the passage of the 2023 state budget.
The governor spoke in New York City on Wednesday, highlighting the key points in the spending plan, which was more than a month late.
A tax credit for young families is included, as well as a ban on natural gas hookups in new construction.
Washington County District Attorney Tony Jordan also spoke Wednesday morning about the changes made to bail laws.
“What you and the leadership have done is return discretion to our judges to allow them to address the very violent individuals that are wreaking havoc in our communities. But it’s not unfettered discretion, right? It is discretion with important guideposts,” Jordan said.
Republicans have been critical of the budget – saying it does not address the needs of New Yorkers on crime and the economy. They also claim it shows inflated spending.
