Hochul, Gillibrand say NY won’t stand for threats to abortion rights
Gov. Kathy Hochul and U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand were at the State Capitol on Friday to discuss threats against reproductive rights.
There has been outcry related to this since an article from The New York Times surfaced, which stated former President Donald Trump said he would be in favor of a ban on abortion after 16 weeks of pregnancy, if he were to become president again.
Trump has told advisers and allies that he favors a ban that includes exceptions for cases of rape, incest and the life of the mother, the article reported.
Hochul finds the idea horrifying, she said.
“I’m calling on all the members who represent the great State of New York as members of Congress sworn in our nation’s capital, Democrat and Republicans, stand up and tell us now today who you are standing with,” Hochul said. “I want to hear your voices loud and clear, so Donald Trump knows that at least in the state of New York your message is not welcome here.”
“We can fight back nationally. We as a nation and we as a state can fight back in New York and women this election season can fight back on the ballot,” Gillibrand said.
A spokeswoman for Trump did not address his reported remarks, only saying, “As President Trump has stated, he would sit down with both sides and negotiate a deal that everyone will be happy with.”
