Gov. Kathy Hochul has just issued an executive order declaring a state disaster emergency in response to the ongoing monkeypox outbreak.

This state disaster emergency will allow New York to respond to the outbreak faster and will provide more resources for vaccines.

The order will expand on who is eligible to be vaccinated.

Hochul’s announcement comes just after New York’s health commissioner declared monkeypox an imminent threat to public health.

The Vermont Department of Health announced the first case of monkeypox in the Green Mountain state on the same day that New York issued its emergency declaration.
