Gov. Kathy Hochul signed groundbreaking legislation to protect some members of New York’s LGBTQ+ community.

The bill makes New York a “safe haven” for the trans community by ensuring the state will protect trans youth, their parents and their doctors. The governor signed that bill ahead of her participation in New York City’s annual Pride March.

She told the crowd that as long as she’s governor, the rights of the LGBTQ+ community will be protected.

“We leave here recommitted in our quest for justice and equality for all, and we’ll always be that beacon to the rest of the nation on how to do it right,” Hochul said.

The governor signed another law which protects transgender people’s rights to receive addiction treatment and rehabilitation.
