Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation to protect New Yorkers from the risk posed by lead pipes.

The law requires making information accessible for people to find out if they have a lead pipe contaminating the drinking water in their home.

It will also require utilities across the state to share how many lead service lines are in their distribution system.

The legislation will help direct resources towards the replacement of all lead pipes, according to Hochul.
