House fire in Mohawk appears to be accidental
A fire official says that the cause of massive fire in Fonda appears to be accidental.
The cause of a fire that destroyed a house in the town of Mohawk night appears to be accidental, according to the fire department.
Dispatchers received a call just before 10:30 p.m. reporting a large amount of smoke and an orange glow in the skyway on Route 5 west of the village of Fonda.
The fire was at a residence at 4110 State Route 5. It started in the rear of the residence near a woodstove.
The cause is not determined, but is not suspicious, according to a fire official.
Firefighters from the Mohawk, Canajoharie and Tribes Hill departments responded to the scene, according to the Mohawk Fire Department’s Facebook page.
Firefighters were at the scene for about four hours.
No injuries were reported. The house is a total loss.
