Huck Finn’s Playland in Albany is celebrating its 72nd year with new-and-improved rides.

The park, which opened in the 1950s in Latham as Hoffman’s Playland, opens for its 72nd season on Saturday.

One of the highlights of this year’s celebration is the refurbishment of several classic rides.

The park’s iconic carousel, a favorite among visitors of all ages, has been lovingly restored to its former glory, with vibrant new paint and refurbished horses gleaming in the sunlight.

The park has a storied history in the Capital Region.

The owners of the original park, David and Ruth Hoffman, announced their retirement in 2014. It was unknown for a while what would happen to the historic rides.

That’s when Huck Finn’s Warehouse owner Jeff Sperber stepped in, bought most of the rides and moved them next to his Albany store.

The park remains there to this day. However, a new owner, Scene One Entertainment, is taking over this year. They also own a handful of movie theaters in the Capital Region.
