Hudson duo sentenced to decade or more in prison for robbery

Two Hudson residents could spend a decade or more in prison for a violent September 2022 robbery.

Cain Carothers, 23, and Eugene Cobbins, 43, were sentenced in Columbia County Court on Thursday. They were convicted in October of robbery, grand larceny and assault.

The pair forced a victim to hand over their wallet, including credit cards and a phone, on North Seventh Street on Sept. 8, 2022, the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office said.

Carothers threatened the victim with a knife.

Visiting Judge Danielle Jose-Decker sentenced Carothers to 12 years in state prison and five years post-release supervision on the top charge. He also pleaded guilty to weapons possession with a previous conviction. That was due to a 2018 burglary and grand larceny conviction.

Cobbins received 10 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision on his top charge.
