Hudson Falls man gets 2 to 6 years for hit-and-run that killed pedestrian
A Hudson Falls man was sentenced Wednesday to 2 to 6 years in prison for hitting a pedestrian with his vehicle and leaving the scene.
Peter Northup Jr., 34, had pleaded guilty in June in connection to the Dec. 15 crash that killed Shane M. Winchell, 30, of Queensbury.
Winchell had finished work when he was hit by a minivan on Burke Drive. He was a father of six kids, according to the Warren County District Attorney’s Office.
Northup made no effort to stop and report the crime, police said.
“It is a credit to law enforcement that they were able to track down and identify the driver of the vehicle so that he could be held accountable,” said Warren County District Attorney Jason Carusone in a statement. “While there is no sentence that will bring Mr. Winchell back to his children, family and friends, the defendant will serve a prison sentence due to his callous action of leaving a young man to die on the side of the road.”
