A 19-year-old Hudson man was taken to hospital for a mental health evaluation after police said he posted a photo with a threat to shoot up the school.

New York State Police contacted the Hudson Police Department at around 9:40 p.m. on Monday to report a possible threat. Police and the FBI received information from the social media app about a youth in a photo holding what appeared to be a handgun. The photograph included text saying he was going “shoot up the school.”

Police traced the photo and determined it came from the city of Hudson, police said. A person of interest was quickly located and detained by the Hudson Police Department. He is not a student.

Police recovered a replica Glock pellet handgun. The subject admitted to taking the photograph of himself with the replica handgun but denied making threats.

He was transported by police to Columbia Memorial Hospital.

This is the second reported threat of violence to the Hudson City School District during the month of March. Police encourage anyone with additional information related to this incident or similar incidents to contact detectives at 518-828-3388.
