A mutual love of cars was the driving force behind toy donations in Albany today.

The Facebook group for Jeep lovers, known as 518 Jeepin, collected toys to deliver to local kids who must spend Christmas in the hospital.

The event at Crossgates Mall is in partnership with Wally’s Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Amsterdam.
The goal is to spread cheer to kids who won’t be home for the holidays.

John Witzke, A member of the 518 Jeepin, highlighted the importance of giving back to the community:

“I want to keep everything here in the local community. Local people taking care of local kids, and you know, that’s what we’re about”

Members of the group gathered the donated toys from around the Capital Region.

They delivered the gifts to kids at Albany Med, Ronald McDonald house and the four winds mental health treatment center in Saratoga.

One of the event organizers told us that the event was incredibly successful. A total of 23 Jeeps hauled five 55 gallon bags of donation from across the area.
