Lake George ‘Lakers’ making return as school nickname

A change for Lake George Schools means going back in time.

The district is returning to a familiar identity. It will once again go by “The Lakers.”

The district was previously known as The Lakers during the 1920s until the early 1940s.

It unveiled the new nickname on Thursday after a months’ long process involving input from students and the community.

The committee started with a list of 270 suggested names, and narrowed it down to four.

A final nickname survey ran until Wednesday, with Lakers earning the win with just over 47% of votes.
