People in the village of Lake George were at the polls Tuesday to elect a new mayor for the first time in more than 50 years.

Bob Blais, 86, who has been mayor for 52 years, is not running.

The Warren County Board of Supervisors declared March 17, 2023 “Mayor Bob Blais Day” in tribute to the mayor, NewsChannel 13’s media partners at The Post-Star reported.

Blais is leaving his post as America’s longest serving active mayor. He was first elected as a trustee on the village board in 1968 and has served as mayor since 1971.

Village Board Trustee Raymond Perry is the favorite to replace Blais. Perry was first elected to the board in 2007.
