Lawmakers have voted to approve new congressional maps for the state of New York.

Now the proposal heads to the state Legislature.

In a meeting on Thursday, the Independent Redistricting Commission approved new boundaries that could swing three political races across the state.

The new maps would shift Amsterdam to District 20, which includes Albany and Saratoga Springs. The proposed changes also would move East Greenbush and Nassau into District 19, which includes all of Columbia and Greene counties.
