There was impactful testimony on Monday as people made their cases against the closure of the Burdett Birth Center in Troy.

New York State Attorney General Letitia James hosted the public hearing.

Burdett is Rensselaer County’s only birthing center.

As NewsChannel 13 has been reporting, St. Peter’s Health Partners is looking to close the center for financial reasons.

Local leaders spoke alongside mothers to remind people that the closure would not only affect Rensselaer County, but the quality of care for mothers across the area.

St. Peter’s Health Partners conducted a community survey on the closure in June. As of Monday evening, they hadn’t commented yet on this meeting.
