Halloween can be a scary time for parents of children with food allergies. So much of the holiday revolves around candy that it can be a dangerous and disappointing time for some kids. A mom is working to change that.

Stephanie Douglas has two kids with food allergies. She has planned a teal pumpkin party for October 22 at the East Greenbush YMCA. Kids can come dressed in costume and play games – all in a food-free, allergy safe environment.

You may also see some houses with teal pumpkins outside this fall. It’s a sign of that house being allergy-conscious, and you’re likely to find toys or other trinkets instead of candy.

The party at the East Greenbush YMCA is free to attend. You can RSVP at this link.
