Police to crack down on distracted driving

State and local police are cracking down on distracted driving.

From now until April 8, police will be conducting “Operation Hang Up.” During this period, police will be stepping up patrols and checkpoints targeting drivers on electronic devices.

They will be using both marked and unmarked cars.

April marks Distracted Driving Awareness Month nationwide.

There were 70,263 tickets issued during last year’s campaign, including 2,612 for distracted driving.
