Local teen uses birthday to benefit toys for tots

Most kids – and even some adults, enjoy the attention and presents that come along with their birthday each year.
But, for a few years now, one local teenager has been using her special day to help others.

Ask most people born close to Christmas and they’ll likely tell you it’s tough not to feel like their big day is somewhat brushed by.

But not Abby Maloney.

Abby was born on Christmas Eve and ahead of her 11th birthday she realized that gave her the power to help others who may not be as fortunate to open presents on Christmas morning.

And so instead of a gift for her on her birthday, asked her friends to donate a toy or book to Capital Region Toys For Tots.

What Abby and her dad didn’t expect is how quickly this would grow.
