Man accused of giving gun to teen who shot himself remains in jail

The Albany man accused of giving a gun to a 14-year-old who fatally shot himself is still in jail after a judge denied a request to lower his bail.

Ellazar Williams is facing charges of criminal sale of a firearm to a minor, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of stolen property.

The teen was found dead last month from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police have not said if the incident was a suicide or accidental.

Williams appeared in Albany County Court on Tuesday morning to appeal his bail amount of $50,000. That request was denied.

Williams’ next court appearance is on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Albany City Court.

Williams is currently suing three Albany police detectives in federal court on the grounds they used excessive force. He was paralyzed in 2018 after being shot by police.

A grand jury cleared police of wrongdoing.
