The Watervliet man who is accused of striking a UAlbany student with his dirt bike was formally arraigned on Monday.

Austin Breyette, 25, allegedly was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic when he struck Alexa Kropf, 19, on Hudson Avenue in Albany just before midnight on April 26. Kropf had a fractured pelvis, required brain surgeries and faces a long road to recovery, according to her father. She is currently in a rehabilitation center closer to her Long Island home.

Breyette then left the scene, loaded the bike on the back of his pickup truck and drove to Poughkeepsie in an effort to cover his tracks, according to prosecutors.

Breyette pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree assault, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting and tampering with physical evidence.

He remains in jail with bail set of $100,000 cash, $100,000 bond or $200,000 partially secured bond.
