Man charged in Tupper Lake Stewart’s standoff
A man is now facing charges after a standoff at a Stewart’s in Tupper Lake, which is just north of the NewsChannel 13 coverage area.
David Payrot walked into a Stewart’s Shop on Park Street on Wednesday afternoon, claiming he had a bomb.
An employee activated a panic alarm and police were called to evacuate the store and nearby homes.
The standoff lasted six hours until the suspect surrendered.
The device in his backpack was not explosive, said police.
Payrot is now charged with making a terroristic threat, placing a false bomb or hazardous substance, and burglary.
