Man dies after house fire, teenager charged

A 15-year-old girl is charged with arson and depraved indifference murder.

A man is dead and a 15-year-old girl has been arrested after a fatal fire on Friday in Columbia County.

Firefighters responded to a residence at 2879 Route 9 in Livingston just before 1:15 p.m. There was heavy fire at the structure, which was a secondary residence on the property that was being rented out, according to Livingston Fire Chief Paul Jahns.

The fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes.

One male was found dead inside, Jahns said. He did not provide further details as State Police is handling that part of the investigation. A teen was arrested.

Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Greenport, Claremont, Germantown, Claverack, Taghkanic and Ancram, according to Jahns.

State Police could not immediately be reached for comment. The blotter confirms an arrest of a 15-year-old for arson and depraved indifference murder at around 1:45 p.m. on Friday.
