Man dies in Bennington police custody

A man has died after being taken into custody by Bennington Police. Now Vermont State Police are investigating.
It started when three people were arrested for drug offenses at the Apple Valley Inn on Route 7, investigators said.
The trio was taken into custody and put into three separate holding areas at Bennington Police.
One of the people in a holding cell – Darrel Jones, 33, was seen a short time later on the floor and leaning against the wall.
An officer started giving emergency care and the Bennington Rescue Squad continued. However, Jones died at the police department.
