Man finds missing Lake George sign: ‘it definitely didn’t belong there’

Man finds missing Lake George sign

A Lake George resident says he found the sign during a hike with his dogs saturday morning.

Being at the right place, at the right time helped the Warren County Sheriff’s Office when a man found the ‘Welcome to the Village of Lake George’ sign this weekend.

A few days ago, NewsChannel 13 reported the sign on Beach Rd was taken!

Phillip Underwood went to Prospect Mountain Hiking Trail on Saturday, May 4. He stumbled upon something that did not belong.

“I just got up in the morning. Take the dogs for a walk and a little hike, and I saw something leaning up against a tree. I thought that was kind of peculiar. I took a picture of it.”

Underwood posted that picture to Facebook with a comical caption, “Look what I found, anybody missing a sign?”

Then, Underwood told his wife about his interesting find.

“She said that it was kind of a big deal that the sign was found. I went back to the sign and then I called Warren County.”

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office gave Underwood instructions: “They told me to stay put so I could direct the officer where it was at. They ended up coming and trying to pick it up, but the sign was so big and heavy it wouldn’t fit in one of their cars.”

Underwood said the metal sign is about 90 pounds. It took the two of them to pick it up and carry it.

“I offered to load in the car, in my truck, and bring it to the office for them,” he said.

The sheriff’s office has the sign for now. It’s unclear how the sign got there. The sheriff’s office continues to investigate, and nobody is in custody right now.
