Man with dementia missing in Bennington, Vt.

Bennington Police are asking for help locating Gary Monroe, 72, from Bennington, Vt. Police said Monroe was last seen Friday afternoon. Although in good health, police said Monroe has dementia, and does not have access to a cell phone or vehicle.

Monroe has long brown hair with a salt and pepper beard. He was last seen wearing a dark green T-shirt, blue jeans, a dark colored hat and black sneakers. He’s 5-foot-9-inches tall and weighs 150 pounds.

Monroe was seen leaving 882 Murphy Road, in Bennington around 4:45 p.m. May 12. Police say he was traveling on foot but they don’t know which direction he was headed.

Multiple Vt. agencies including the Bennington Police, Vermont State Police-Search and Rescue, and Vermont Fish and Game are searching for Monroe in the Murphy Road area. Police are asking residents in this area to check sheds, garages, or barns. They are also asking residents to check outdoor camera footage for Monroe Friday evening.
