Maple Avenue closed in Glenville for repair work from bridge strike
A portion of Maple Avenue in Glenville will be closed next week so crews can replace the railroad crossing bridge, which was damaged when a tractor-trailer hit it and caused a big explosion.
The roadway will be closed beginning Monday and last through Friday.
Maple Avenue in Glenville is closed this week to repair damage caused by last December’s railroad bridge strike, which caused a huge explosion.
A tractor-trailer struck the bridge on Dec. 21. Now, workers are installing a new I-beam and support structures.
The Maple Avenue bridge had not been nearly as frequently as the infamous Glenridge railroad bridge. Town Supervisor Chris Koetzle said he believes that flashing signals and a laser system to warn drivers of trucks that are too tall have contributed to fewer bridge strikes.
Some vehicles have been going to Maple Avenue, but Koetzle believes the word is getting out that trucks should not go that way.
