Mayor Stammel vetoed council’s resolution on 99% pay cut for Schofield

Mayor Stammel vetoed council’s resolution reducing Schofield’s pay nearly 99%

There is a new development in the conflict between Rensselaer Mayor Michael Stammel and the city’s Common Council, after the Council gave the former GOP Elections Commissioner a nearly 99% pay cut.

Mayor Stammel says after careful consideration, he has formally vetoed the council’s resolution that cut Jason Schofield’s pay.

Schofield is the former GOP Elections Commissioner who is now serving as a clerk at Rensselaer City Hall.

He pleaded guilty to federal charges in the ongoing Rensselaer County ballot fraud trial.

The Rensselaer Common Council voted to reduce his pay from $40,000 to just $100 a year.

Mayor Stammel announced yesterday he formally vetoed that resolution.
