Little League seeking to recoup nearly $6,000 in donations they lost from alleged scam

A local Little League team is out nearly $6,000 after falling victim to an alleged repeat scammer.

The Mechanicville-Stillwater Little League said it gave $5,700 deposit to Trust A Fence for repairs to their field. The owner of that company, James Butler, 31, is facing multiple charges in different counties for allegedly taking deposits and not doing the work.

He allegedly received more than $15,000 total from two victims in Saratoga and Warren counties last summer and failed to complete the work, police said. Butler was also charged in Glenville for allegedly taking $7,000 from a homeowner there and not purchasing any fencing material.

The Little League is asking for the community’s help to recover the lost donations.
