Mom killed in Johnstown crash; Seatbelt saves 3-year-old daughter

A 33-year-old woman was killed in a Johnstown crash on Tuesday. Her 3-year-old daughter was saved by a car seat, investigators said.

The crash happened when an 81-year-old man was traveling south on State Route 30A. He took a left on Route 29A in Johnstown in front of a Jeep, investigators said. The Jeep rolled as it went off the road.

The driver, Andrea Russell, 33, was thrown from the vehicle and died. Her 3-year-old daughter was in a car seat and survived. She was removed from the vehicle with the help of about 15 passersby who got out of their vehicles to help, police said.

Investigators had initially told NewsChannel 13 on Tuesday the child was 4 years old.

Both crashes remain under investigation.
