More than $5.5 million being awarded to protect NY state farms

More than $5.5 million are being awarded to protect farmland in New York state.

The money is part of the Farmland Protection Implementation Grants (FPIG) program.

It’s going to non-for-profit organizations to protect land on seven different New York farms, Gov. Kathy Hochul said.

Nearly $950,000 is going to 514 acres of farmland here in the Capital Region for the Horton Farm, which is run by the Agricultural Stewardship Association in Washington County.

The program has protected 113,650 acres across the state so far.
