A mother mourns the loss of her son and seeks justice after learning his friend may have been responsible.

Last Tuesday, police arrested 24 year old Markeith Buchanan for the deadly shooting that happened outside a popular night club in Schenectady over the summer.

John Bass, the victim of the shooting, was a father to a three year old daughter. He was active in the community and worked with anti-bullying programs.

His mother says that he was a well-rounded person who was a member of the swim team in high school, wrestled, and made music that was often reflective of his life experience.

On the night of Friday, July 1 at around 1 AM, John was shot outside Vibez Bar and Lounge. Nearly three months later, police arrested Markeith Buchanan, a person Bass’s mom says they knew very well.

“Him and John were best friends, so for him to take your best friends life and run with no remorse that’s just really weird and says a lot about your character. It’s really disgusting and I just don’t understand it.”

Buchanan has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a firearm.
